Sorry for the lack of recent blogs, but with under two weeks until I commit myself fully to another human being, my head is completely full. I’ve tried to force some of the flowers and menu and music and lists out of my head to make room for some funnies, but I’ve been highly unsuccessful. Anything that’s non wedding-related is only getting half my attention at best – like a comic during the Fringe, peering around the person they’re talking to to see if there’s anyone else in the room they “should” be talking to. In other words, I’m a wanker.
Lots of you have been in touch with messages of concern and support regarding our race to get the Certificate of Approval in in time to give the required 15 days notice at the registry office. I was very touched – and thanks – but you know, next time, contact an MP or something: we didn’t get it in time. So, what we’re having on March 13th will be all the “good” bits – music, vows (yikes – must write vows), family/ friends, rings and cake – the legals will have to follow in a couple of weeks.
This has meant that, in the week where everyone’s advising me to chill, everything’s booked and paid for, why not have a bit of “you time”? – the fiancĂ© and I are in and out of solicitor’s offices, prepping and swearing affadavits and offering bits of our wedding as proof that we are a real couple. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when the solicitor referred to the receipt for our wedding cake as “Exhibit A”. I chose to laugh (but I cried inside).
Had a very quick but pleasant trip to Dublin yesterday. Did a voiceover job in a brand new studio with people I’m very fond of. Can’t really say fairer than that from a working day – even if it begins at 4am. But let me explain: remember how I always go off the beers in the run-up to something? Well, I haven’t been able to this time. I tried: me and the fiancĂ© both went to Karaoke Circus on the soda and limes and it was still brilliant. So that was nice. But then, the stress started mounting, and as the thing gets closer people want to buy you drinks (I did not know about this) and generally be nice to you and I find that nice is just that little bit nicer with a chilled glass of sauvignon blanc in my hand.
On Sunday, a friend had been very nice to me indeed. She’d booked me a massage and a pedicure and then we went for wine. We were nice to each other in a bar for hours and forgot to eat. I was on my pre-bridal ear.
When I got home, I suddenly remembered the reality that I would have to be up in 6 hours for the Dublin flights, so I drank copious amounts of water and ate about 5 handfuls of pretzels. When I got on the plane, I made a sloshing sound and was composed mainly of Sodium Chloride.
But I made it and I didn’t even have a hangover. Quel miracle! (I watched La Vie en Rose when I got in last night and will be speaking French for days. D’accord?) Job went well, weather was stunning, not a single flight delay or bus conundrum – it’s almost as if it were spring, or something. Which is brilliant; that’s exactly when we wanted to have our wedding.
