It’s been a month since I had my one appearance on a soap. What a difference a month makes! Whoo! What a wild week it’s been. Already! It’s been a whirlwind of fancy lunches, shopping and hair appointments. I haven’t had anything done to my hair – I just made appointments for it. It’s worth it.
I don’t know how I find the time to fit fancy lunches or appointments of any kind into my hectic schedule: I’m up at the crack of 9 to do some talking on the telephone and Tweeting. I talk to my agent most days, just to touch base about how busy I am. Talking about how busy I am is quite stressful, so every few days I have a massage. People think that’s quite extravagant, but I only get a different bit of me massaged each time: I don’t want to overdo it – I’m still Tara from the block.
After my massage, I have a read through all the projects that are sent to me in the post. I would be really exhausted from opening the door to couriers all day, so I had to tell my agent to get the various writers and producers to chill! Post it. So it takes a few extra days to reach me? Relax! I’m just one woman – and I will definitely read it once my assistant has passed it on to me as one of the ones that’s not shit.
It takes a lot of energy to stay looking this good, so I have no option but to multi-task. I’ve been lucky enough to find a yoga instructor who’s also a manicurist. She buffs and paints my fingers and toes while I maintain an effortless downward facing dog. I don’t know how it works but, believe me, it works. Afterwards, I’m quite literally a new woman.
Following one of my famous, fabulous lunches, I often trail around the shops: even if I don’t buy anything, it’s important to stay on trend. You never know when you’ll be papped. I mean, I do, because my assistant is to die for, but often you only have a few minutes to reapply your gloss and look miserable.
As you can imagine, by 4pm I’m absolutely knackered, so I pop into one of London’s most exclusive establishments for an energizing fruit juice. I don’t think there’s a bartender in this town who doesn’t know my recipe by now! Fresh oranges, mangoes and the zest of one and a half limes and 2 shots of vodka. Delicious.
After 3 or 4 of those, I’m simply raring to go again, so I call one of my famous friends and we’ll arrange to meet somewhere fashionable. Of course, I still have friends who aren’t in the limelight, but they just aren’t able for the level of attention I get. I still see them sometimes, when it’s dark.
If I don’t have a late afternoon business meeting (and I almost definitely do – I’m soon to launch my new fragrance ARAT: it’s “Tara” backwards and the “t” is silent – I don’t want people saying “I smell AraT”), I’ll try and take in a tap class or go abseiling. It’s important to keep learning. I’m the kind of person who really believes that, quite literally.
Me and my famous friends will probably head for dinner, but maybe not! Sometimes, we’re just having too much fun! And there’ll obviously be plenty of networking, too. It’s up to me to make sure that those scripts keep plopping through my letterbox, so my credit card is always behind the bar and anyone I’ve ever heard of has champagne. It’s essential. It might look like random partying to an outsider, but in many ways, this is quite literally the most important part of what I do.
Before I leave, I call my assistant to find out where the paps are lurking, so I can try to avoid them. I often forget and walk straight into their nest of lenses! I’m such a bubble head – but that’s what comes with being the kind of person who’s creative. Barely an evening goes by when I don’t get my picture in something. I’m the kind of person who’s very happy inside, but I make sure they know how hacked off I am at having walked into them – by chance – by scowling.
By 1am, without fail, I’m tucked up in bed. I don’t have a beauty routine per se, I just make sure I’ve taken all my makeup off using whatever fad product has been sent to me to try. But once that’s done, it’s lights-out for me on another busy day. I’m the kind of person who hopes people see how exhausting and hectic it all is. I’m just a working actress/ writer/ performer. My art is my life. I’ve run out of time to tell you about my next project, but it’s very, very exciting. Good night.
*Today, I will be walking the dog, working on some songs, and staring at the phone because, apparently, that makes it ring.
